Everyone has their own daily routine for getting to school and back, following the same path every day, back and forth. Crossing Sounds is about a girl and her daily routine. Every day she walks to school, walks back home, practices the violin and goes to bed — round and round it goes. But something wants her attention – like an inner voice calling her. A longing for playful adventures in the park, a desire to linger in the thrift shop for hours, fascinated by old things – basically, to be one with her surroundings. One day the feeling overwhelms her, and she breaks her daily routine. The road is suddenly unrecognizable, and everything sounds completely different.
But, in the middle of chaos she finds peace. She learns how to listen, improvise and connect with her surroundings. Suddenly, every tiny sound can potentially become its own playful universe, deconstructing her daily routine and satisfying her need for playfulness and adventure.
Crossing Sounds is a mash-up of genres like sound art, performance, and puppet show. But, there are no puppets and no scenography in the traditional sense. Instead, small speakers are carried around as sonic representations of the characters of the story, the streets, the school, the park, and the thrift shop.
Crossing Sounds is a celebration of everyday life. What happens when we look up, listen, and dare to fully experience and interact with our surroundings for better and for worse?
